Today, SpaceX made history by flying the astronauts, Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, into space with the help of Falcon 9 rocket. The title of the launch is ‘Demo-2,’ and it is the demonstration mission of Falcon 9 and Crew Dragon. Overall, this was the second attempt. Initially, the company planned the flight for 27 May; however, it was affected due to weather conditions.

This is the first time that humans have boarded a SpaceX vehicle. Until today, Behnken and Hurley are the first ones to take flight with the company.
NASA initiated the Commercial Crew Space Program to start developing private space launch vehicles. SpaceX and Boeing both have placed winning bids on the Commercial Crew contracts and the developed human space launch systems.

It’s been a long time since a human took off from U.S. soil on a new launch vehicle. Moreover, it is also the first time that someone has flown from an American launch site since 2011.

After that test, the Crew Dragon will take over and fly on the way to the ISS. From there, both Hurley and Behnken will transfer over the station. They will remain there for six to sixteen weeks. However, this mainly depends on the staffing requirement on the ISS.

Once it’s clear when they are coming, they will board the Crew Dragon and detach it from the station. This part of the program is fully automated. Once it is in the atmosphere, it will initiate parachutes to fall back on Earth. It will land on the Atlantic ocean, where the SpaceX crew will recover the capsule.

SpaceX is planning to fly astronauts for fully operational missions at the end of this year if everything goes according to the plan. Moreover, it has also signed some agreement for the Crew Dragon Space Tourist Missions, which will start from the next year. Let’s hope that everything goes according to the plan.
