Things the 2010s Decade Will Be Remembered For

Every decade is known for something. The 30s are known for the Great Depression. The 70s are known for disco and Star Wars. The 90s are when the internet created waves across the world. With 2020 coming closer along with the end of the decade, here are some things the decade will be remembered for:

1. Rise of Social Media

Newspapers and print media have become inferior to the likes of online media. Most newspapers and magazines have digital outlets that are more easily accessible and equally billable as the print version. Apps like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have all changed the way people connect and network.

2. Domination of Smartphones

While speaking of apps, smartphones have made it as easy as a click at the tips of your fingers to access everything, literally. Although smartphones debuted many years before with the first being the Simon Personal Communicator from 1992, it was the likes of Apple that made it immensely popular and shifted the way the world works on a daily basis. With technological advancements, the 2010s took root to one of the greatest debates of which is better, Apple or Samsung.

3. Superhero Movies and TV Shows

Be it DC Universe or Marvel, heroes from Batman to Thor, superheroes have become a culture in this decade. Not only have heroes become a fan favorite, but even villains like the Joker have created a cult following. Netflix, which is another trademark of the decade, features many shows telling the story of various superheroes. The Avengers was probably one of the biggest things to that will be remembered, with Avengers: End Game becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.796 billion. Not to mention that six out of the 20 highest-grossing movies of all time are superhero movies.

4. Social and Political Change

Gay marriage is legal. Many states have legalized marijuana. The #MeToo movement was significant. The decade started with Obama and is ending with Trump and another presidential election. Enough said.

5. Disney Remakes

The decade will be remembered for several Disney remakes. Popular animated films have been adapted into live-action counterparts. Lion King live-action became the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time with $1.6 billion. With Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, and soon to be released Mulan and Lady and the Tramp, Disney has once again managed to impress the audiences.

The 2010s decade will be remembered for many more things like Salt Bae, the Ice Bucket Challenge, hilarious memes, millennials being the center of cultural attention, and the tumultuous political times throughout the world. Nonetheless, it is definitely one for the books.
