Three arrested by Indian police for possession of beef

According to a police officials, three men were held in the eastern Indian state of Bihar on Saturday. They were detained in connection with the beating death of a Muslim man who was accused of possessing beef.

A mob beat and murdered 56-year-old Naseem Qureshi earlier this week because they feared he was in possession of beef. The sale and consumption of beef is prohibited in some parts of the country.

Many atrocities have been performed against Muslims and others from lower castes in India. Some were wrongly accused of killing cows for their meat or leather.

Hardline Many Hindu groups have advocated for an end to cow slaughter in India.

In 2014, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government gained power, self-proclaimed Hindu cow vigilante groups began to independently enforce the legislation.

Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party is in opposition to the regional party in Bihar that is now in power.

In a recent occurrence in the state, according to a police complaint, the victim was surrounded by more than twenty people before to being attacked.

Even after police involvement, according to the statement, Qureshi died on transit to the hospital.

Ramchandra Tiwari, the head of the police station in Rasulpur, Bihar, where the event occurred, stated through telephone that three suspects had been captured.
