Tidal has had a tough run in the business of music streaming, but their luck just might be about to turn around.
Yesterday, November 2, Tidal revealed the streaming service will be expanding their repertoire by offering original TV shows. If this is a trick to overcome their competition with Spotify and other streaming services, it might not be the best. This new initiative makes Tidal’s competition even bigger as the service is now in a pool with Netflix and similar video and series streaming services.
The news was revealed through Variety with the announcement of a drama series called Money & Violence and a comedy show profiling upcoming comedians called No Small Talk. The first season of Money & Violence is available on Tidal and the next season will be launched exclusively on Tidal in January 2016.
No Small Talk is available for subscribers on the celebrity endorsed streaming service as well.
“If someone is paying for Tidal we want that to be the best experience they can have,” said Tim Riley, the Tidal senior VP of label and artist relations.
Tidal is, of course, planning to increase the number of series on their platform. This will include sports-related shows and also profile series similar to No Small Talk with emerging artist in various fields.
