Tivo enters streaming market

Tivo has introduced a new device today, which is its fire stick competitor called Tivo stream 4K. It was introduced first in the consumer back in January. This device is an attempt by the company to enter into the streaming media market.

The company has introduced this new device at a time when it has lost its users to rivals like Amazon, Roku, and Apple. Currently, Tivo’s DVR for pay-TV customers has gone out of fashion. The new device supports UHD with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos.

The stream play store has access to thousands of apps for streaming, like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and others.

However, it doesn’t record live TV. However, Tivo has left that to its partner, Sling TV. The deal with Sting TV also involves integration, which surfaces the Sting’s content through voice commands.

The voice button can also call up Google Assistant, similar to other Android devices, meaning that you could do more search for content. The assistant can even answer specific questions as it gives you a daily weather forecast.

The Tivo’s stream provides access to the ad-supported streaming service, called Tivo+. Tivo+ gives access to thousands of hours of TV shows and movies. Moreover, it has around 49 streaming channels across music, food, and comedy.

The Tivo stream 4K doesn’t involve a subscription to its service. It is just a single purchase of $49.99 and also includes seven days free trial of Sling TV.

‘Currently, viewers are streaming across several platforms. Tivo stream 4K integrates the content with the search that it makes it easier to find and enjoy the news, entertainment, and sports,’ said David Shull in a statement, who is the CEO of Tivo. ‘We have received an awesome reception from the media. Now we are launching Tivo stream 4K, which is a great symbol of our company’s transformation.

Tivo can’t call itself a pioneer in the market where several devices already exist, like Chrome cast, Roku streaming stick, and Fire TV stock.

The company is trying to reinvent its DVR for cord-cutting, with mixed results.
It has declined hardware sales and subscriber numbers. Now, the company has turned its business to advertising, including its streaming service. Recently, the company announced to merge with Xperia in a $3 billion deal.

The Tivo stream 4K will be another way for the company to put itself in front of more customers.

The device is now available on the company’s official website.
