Tom Brady Suspension of 4 Games Will Cost him $2 Million+

The NFL responded aggressively to the allegations against New England’s Patriot quarterback, and three time Super Bowl victor Tom Brady, who was penalized for associating with 48 year old, team locker room attendant Jim McNally, as well as 35 year old equipment assistant John Jastremski in a, “Deliberate plan to circumvent the rules by releasing air from the Patriot’s game balls.”

The two men, Jim McNally and John Jastremski, were responsible for the actual deflation of the balls, successfully deflating 13 balls in 1 minute and 40 seconds, and coining themselves “The deflator” in a 243 page report issued by the NFL commissioner. Brady’s involvement in the scandal is clear, as one of the men’s text message conversations revolves around Brady’s disparagement over the inflation level of a ball during his bottomless win against the New York Jets on October 17th of last season, beating them only by a margin of 2 points, 27-25.

Brady’s consistent exasperation over the ball’s “feel” was ultimately the catalyst for investigating his potential role in the scandal. The exact text messages after the game against the New York Jets on October 17th as per the report are as follows:

McNally: “Tom sucks…im going make that next ball a fuckin balloon”

Jastremski: “Talked to him last night. He actually brought you up and said you must have a lot of stress trying to get them done…”

Jastremski: “I told him it was. He was right though…”

The standard pressure of a permissible NFL football is in the range of 12.5psi-13.5psi, respectively. This is a fairly wide established and understood set in the NFL, however in a press conference, Brady claims, “To have known nothing about the inflation range set by the NFL playing rules or the inflation range targeted by the Patriots, until after the game against the New York Jets on October 16th, 2014.”

In response to Brady’s allegations, the NFL has suspended him 4 games in the 2015-16 season (costing him personally $2 million), fined the team $1 million, and has rescinded the team’s 2016 first round draft pick, along with their 2017 fourth round pick.

Tom Brady and his agent however plans to appeal these forfeitures.
