Mysteries have attracted the attention of curious people for hundreds of years. Some famous mysterious phenomenons can only be briefed by science. We wonder about the existence of Jack the Ripper or the secret behind the Bermuda Triangle. Investigators always have been trying to figure out the possible solution for earlier mysteries. There always has been something that has left people confused for hundreds of years. If you are curious to find out about the biggest mysteries, then this article is for you. Let’s see what are the top unsolved mysteries in the world.

TOP TEN UNSOLVED MYSTERIES OF THE WORLD

Dark Matter – The Spider’s Web

mysteries of the world

The items that we can see, for example, planets, galaxies, stars, asteroids, compose about 5% of the entire universe. But what makes up the rest? Therein lies the actual mystery. According to some investigations by scientists, 25% is a suspicious substance called “Dark Matter”. We can’t look at it, we don’t understand it, but we know it exists. Scientists figure that substance acts sort of a spider’s web that holds some fast-moving galaxies together. It seems to twist the actual exterior of the space. Plenty of validations proves the existence of dark matter. But the question still lies there, what is it? Some think dark matter consists of unfamiliar particles, some other investigators believe it’s an unexplored property of gravity. Whatever the fact is, dark matter may be a real puzzle, and it’s proven hugely tricky to be figured out.

The Bermuda Triangle – Devil’s Triangle

bermuda triangle

Bermuda Triangle is among the foremost mysterious and deadly areas on the earth, where lies the boundaries of Miami, Puerto Rico, Florida, and Bermuda. It is said that since 1492, when Columbus sailed through the region, strange sightings have been reported from there. It is also called “the Devil’s Triangle”. Ships, planes, and people are claimed to have strangely disappeared. The current of the Gulf Stream is powerful enough to explain the absence of ruins. Coast Guard records proved that a lot of disappearances were out of human error. Back in 1975, Lawrence David Kusche, librarian and pilot, published his investigation. When he reviewed the official reports on ships, he found that they usually sank in bad weather or suffered explainable accidents. Over 700 boats and planes vanished without a trace in the “Bermuda Triangle.” The Bermuda Triangle has become the topic of endless myths and tragedies. What happens there, nobody has any idea.

Stonehenge

mysteries of the world

The origin of Stonehenge has kept archaeologists distracted for ages. Stonehenge is a 5,000 years ancient monument in Wiltshire, England, which was erected using two types of stones. When you look at it, you think about the tech that was available back in those days. As archaeologists research about this area, mystery after mystery reveals. A Stonehenge replica was built by Michigan carpenter Wally Wallington in his garden, using only what was available to humans back then. On the balance of possibilities, it is more likely that the constructors of Stonehenge chose the western route. Stonehenge Hidden Landscape Project was a project that studied the mystery of Stonehenge thoroughly, which ran from 2010 to 2014. Its construction has been one of the head-scratching mysteries. There are many archaeological arguments about the theories of how the stones got from Wales to Salisbury Plain.

The disappearance of Paul-Jean Welden

On the first day of December 1946, Paula Jean Welden went missing and became a mystery forever. Some people saw Paula on her way to the Long Trail, but then no one spotted her ever again. Welden did not come back to campus. Her roommate was not worried at first, but when she didn’t return, even after a whole day was passed, she got suspicions. Once the college administrators were informed, they immediately started a search for her. The search was continued, but nobody has ever found Paula or her remains. There were even more unusual disappearances reported in the same area in the next few coming years. Investigators initially believed Welden had gotten lost within the mountains and died of exposure, but as time passed, they began to think about other theories.

Phaistos Disc

mysteries of the world

The palace complex of Phaistos got the attention of archaeologists in 1908 when a very unusual object was discovered there. The object was a small disk of fired clay, about 6 inches in width, and held symbols of unknown meaning in a spiral formation. Both sides of the disc are covered with a spiral of strange stamped symbols, circling clockwise facing the disc’s center. The mystery of the Phaistos Disc was discovered by Italian archaeologist Luigi Pernier in 1908 in the Minoan palace-site of Phaistos. The disc is formed of fired clay and contains mysterious symbols that may represent an unknown sort of hieroglyphics. Today the disc remains one among the foremost famous puzzles of archaeology. Since its discovery, the Phaistos Disk has confused researchers. While many theories are put forward, none are agreed upon. It seems like the Phaistos Disk is one object which will keep its puzzles.

Kryptos

Kryptos remains one of the most well-known mysteries in the world. In 1989, US artist, Jim Sanborn, did a work of art made of stone and copper. Kryptos is found ahead of the CIA headquarters in Langley. The encrypted message on Kryptos consists of 869 letters and four parts not visibly apart from each other. It is known that the primary two parts are encrypted with a variant of the Vigenère cipher, while the third was created with a transposition cipher. The fourth section of the code remained unsolved, and so far, nobody has found a reputable solution yet. There is a pool at the bottom of the sculpture and a bench. It is unclear whether these messages are associated with the solving of the Kryptos Cipher or whether or not they are simply adding to the artistic aspect of the sculpture. Kryptos has many characters and spellings that are not really aligned and don’t make any sense. It has been nearly three decades, and yet nobody has found out what the complete message says.

The Fermi’s Paradox – Little Green Men

The universe is really big in the grand scheme of things. The Fermi Paradox refers to the denial between the high probability of extraterrestrial life and, therefore, the apparent lack of evidence that such life exists. There are multiple theories, starting from the likelihood that intelligent life is exceptionally unusual or short-lived to the notion that alien species are purposefully avoiding detection. The survival of any other intelligent civilization in the universe remains one of the greatest mysteries of our times. Fermi wasn’t the first person to ask this question about alien intelligence. But he owns it. The query is known around the globe as the Fermi paradox. The possibility is that extraterrestrial intelligence exists and may even live among us, but we are unable to detect them, either because they are unidentifiable to us or they have chosen to be invisible.

Voynich Manuscript

It has been titled “the world’s most mysterious manuscript.” The Voynich Manuscript is a detailed 240-page book written in a completely unknown language. It was named after the Polish-American bookseller Wilfrid M. Voynich, who bought it in 1912. Its pages are also filled with colorful drawings of weird diagrams, odd events, and plants that do not seem to resemble any familiar species. The innovative author of the manuscript remains unknown, but carbon dating has disclosed that its pages were made sometime between 1404 and 1438. Like, Nicholas Gibbs, the historian and the artist believed that it was meant to address topics in early modern medicine. Many of the images of herbs and plants indicate that it may have been a textbook for an alchemist. Centuries after its first discovery, the Voynich Manuscript remains as inexplicable as ever.

Antimatter – The Evil Times

Antimatter is a sort of particle that has the same mass as normal particles but of the opposite electric charge. It can wipes out the normal matter on contact. Both are destroyed in an instant. So antimatter has the power to destroy us. There’s very little or no antimatter roaming around within the cosmos. What’s more, antimatter could even prove useful. When antimatter and matter meet and destroy each other, it releases energy. In a Positron Emission Tomography scanner, anti-electrons are created, and their annihilation in the body allows doctors to make sophisticated images. So perhaps antimatter isn’t quite so evil after all. The antimatter world may be a perfect reflection of our own.

Beale Ciphers

Thomas Jefferson Beale leaves three ciphertexts with an innkeeper in Virginia. The in-keeper got greedy, and after waiting for some time, he decided to solve the riddle himself and open the Beale Ciphers. The Beale Ciphers are basically three small decipherable texts that are rumored to have the location of the huge treasure of America buried under the US capitol. Of the three ciphertexts, only the second one has been cracked. There are many treasure hunters since then who have spent their lives searching for this treasure. Two brothers, Eddie and Joe Toney, spent nine years searching for the treasure.
