Top Chinese diplomats called on the US and China to mend ties and put diplomatic relations back on a constructive path. The director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party, Yang Jiechi, further urged the US to stop meddling in the country’s internal matters, like Tibet, Hong Kong, and the situation in Uighur detention camps.
Since US President Joe Biden took control of the White House, Jiechi became the highest-ranking Chinese official to speak on the China-US relations. Under the previous Trump administrations, the ties between the two nations plunged to new lows since Washington first established diplomatic ties with Beijing.
In recent years, both sides have clashed on several issues, including the coronavirus outbreak, the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong, and the prosecution of millions of Uighurs in Xinjiang. While stressing that no force can stop Chinese development, Jiechi reassured the US that Beijing has no plans to challenge or replace Washington on the global stage.
On Tuesday, while speaking at an event in China’s capital, Yang Jiechi, maintained that the Asian country never meddles in America’s internal affairs, including its electoral process. The Chinese Communist Party’s top leader urged Biden not to abuse the concept of a national security trade.
He further told the US that China was willing to work to move forward and establish a relationship along the track of win-win cooperation, mutual respect, and no conflict. Reuters reported that the term “cooperation” was used overwhelmingly used by Jiechi during his speech at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations that was held online. Besides, he further added that the American business firms could benefit more than twenty-two trillion dollars’ worth of exports to China in the next decade.
