Living in the Chicago land area, storms are nothing that surprise residents. In April the storms are fairly common, and sometimes tornadoes touchdown. Thursday night one of these storms came through the Chicago land area, but sadly this time one person died and seven have been injured. The tornado touched down near Rochelle, Illinois, which is 60 northwest of Chicago. The actual town is called Fairdale which is in the Dekalb County, and the town took a direct hit from the tornado. Tornados were reported to have touched down in Peoria, Illinois and Dewitt, Iowa as well, but there was no damage in the other towns.
All the buildings were damaged at some level. Earlier a tornado watch was issued, where residents are informed that the weather conditions are perfect for a tornado to touchdown. It doesn’t mean that a tornado will touchdown, but there is a likelihood a tornado will touchdown. When a tornado watch has been issued it is wise to go to a safe area. However, about four homes have been leveled after the tornado hit.
Along with the tornadoes the winds were already reached 70 MPH and there were golf ball sized hail. Also the Red Cross wishes to deploy crews to help those effected by the tornado.
Along with the devastating damage from the tornadoes hundreds of flights were cancelled at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and 45 flights were cancelled at Midway Airport as well.
