Toyota has been forced to cease production at several of its plants in Japan due to one of their largest suppliers, Aisin Advics Co., experiencing an explosion at their facilities.
Aisin Advics Co. is a large supplier of Toyota’s brake components for their cars. The company reported yesterday that one of their factories experienced an explosion large enough to force them to halt production. In turn, this caused Toyota to halt production of some of their vehicles. The nature of the explosion has currently not been reported yet.
According to Motor Trend, one of the largely affected plants is the Takaoka factory. This factory is responsible for manufacturing Toyota vehicles such as the Carolla, Rav4, and the Prius. Another plant affected is the Motomachi plant which will cause the cease in production of the Lexus GS models.
Seems as though lately Toyota just can’t catch a break. This isn’t the first delay in production the Japanese automaker has seen recently. Just last month, Southern Japan experienced earthquakes that caused complications at Toyota supplier’s plants. This caused Toyota to see a 17-percent production drop.
A report from RushHourDaily states that Toyota hopes to see production back to normal within the next day or two. It’s currently too early to tell the exact effects this will have on Toyota’s production. With the auto manufacturer still in recovery from last month’s tragedy, it could leave the company reeling.
