Tristan Jarry, Penguins snap Avs’ record road win streak

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-0, ending the Avalanche’s undefeated streak. Reilly Smith scored two goals in the first period, while Tristan Jarry made 31 saves for his second shutout of the season. Lars Eller and Sidney Crosby also contributed goals for the Penguins. This victory improved the Penguins’ record against the Avalanche to 6-2-0 in their last eight meetings. The Avalanche, who had not lost a game in their first six outings, saw their NHL record for consecutive road wins snapped at 15. Colorado goaltender Alexandar Georgiev allowed four goals on 24 shots before being replaced by Ivan Prosvetov. Smith’s first goal came just after a Pittsburgh power play expired, as the puck deflected off an Avalanche player and found its way to Smith, who scored from the hashmarks. Smith struck again later in the first period, capitalizing on a two-on-one opportunity with Evgeni Malkin. Eller extended the Penguins’ lead in the second period, while Crosby sealed the victory with a goal in the third period.
