The Coronavirus outbreak has rapidly spread across the United States, and the virus has infected more than one hundred thousand and with at least 4000 deaths.

The current situation has called for strict measures in the country. At the moment, the government urges citizens to remain indoors until the pandemic is neutral.  President Trump has allowed treatment of covid-19 patients in the Navy ship. According to the reporters, the vessel has one thousand beds at the service of the patients.

The main reason for this suggestion is to relieve the pressure experienced by the New York City hospital. Andrew Cuomo, the New York governor, says those infected with the disease require the Comfort they deserve. The governor was the first to propose the use of the ship for treating patients to Donald Trump.

The sense of commitment

During the Monday evening conference, Trump said the ship is to be used to treat patients from New Jersey and New York. He hopes that the vessel will service the two states well. According to the reporters, the ship was not for treating patients with Covid-19 infection. The act has led to criticism; people have raised questions on whether the vessel is helping. Following the citizens’ demand and the pressure in the New York hospital, Trump had to intervene.

The area hospital will first admit the Covid-19 patients. Then later, they will be transferred to the Navy ship. An official in the defense department told NBC News that the Comfort is ready to accept patients. Similarly, a hospital set up at Javits Center began to take coronavirus patients several days ago. The hospital is a mile south of the Navy ship, and it has around 2,500 beds for patients.

The desire to contain the virus

On Sunday evening press conference, Trump sees it wise to give the Comfort to New York, following the level of the outbreak in the state. He adds that they will use the ship whenever they need it, even if it is for the virus. According to the defense department, by Monday, the Comfort crew had treated forty-one patients. Now, thirty-one patients remain on board, where sixteen of them are under the Intensive Care Unit.

In the Sunday press conference, Trump says they are going to use the Comfort although it was not for the virus. It shows how the United States is prepared to sacrifice to contain the virus. Take a look for the Javits center, built for non-corona cases use. But with the severe outbreak, Cuomo is forced to direct it to be used for infected patients. According to the Navy, there was a transfer of about five patients from Javits to Comfort. They were later taken back to Javits after testing positive for COVID-19

Conclusion

As per the news, a similar ship, the mercy which has around one thousand beds, had treated 15 non-COVID-19 patients. As you see, the United States government is trying hard to contain the virus. They are exploiting any available resource. In my opinion, all other countries worldwide should have the same attitude, and we will succeed.
