The President hopeful Donald Trump stated that if he is elected that he would know within six months how to deal with peace talks about the Israelis and Palestinians. The problem is that he knows deep down that he has doubts that each side will have a commitment to the peace talks. “I have a real question as to whether or not, both sides want to make it,”
Trump states that “A lot will have to do with Israel and whether or not Israel wants to make the deal — whether or not Israel’s willing to sacrifice certain things,” Trump said, in comments that raised eyebrows among conservatives. If it is not, he said, “I understand that, and I’m OK with that. But then you’re just not going to have a deal.”
The Republican candidate states that “If I win, I’ll let you know six months from the time I take office,” and also feels that it would be a “would be a really great achievement,” if a deal could be done to end a prolonged conflict and that he would like “something I’d really like to do.” That if he could just be able to he feels that “I’ll be able to tell in one sit-down meeting with the real leaders.”
He also stated that after the holidays he would be traveling to have talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel. “You know, I’m going to be probably going over there pretty soon and I want to see him,” Trump states. “I want to see other people, I want to get some ideas on it.” He did quickly add that the trip was planned way before Ben Carson had his excursion to meet with the Jordanian refugee camp.
The billionaire still feels that his skills as a Deal-maker is the key is that is missing and that is what his followers see. It is what makes the voters excited about the possibility of making a foreign policy challenge work.
One thing he did say is that he was a “big, big fan” of Israel. The question that comes up though is that he does question Israel’s commitment to having some peace with the Palestinians so some are raising their eyebrows in both sides of the political straits.
Now, once again, Trump was short and evaded the specific details on how he would try to get the two sides to sit down and broker some peace in the Middle East. Or even in that he supported the longstanding U.S. Government’s goal. Say that he truly did not want to show any favor of one side or the other.
The Trump approach is still not known on what stance on if the Palestinian peace negotiations are legitimate. And also that if Israel would accept a settlement in regards to the West Banks. That if they would broker a deal that could have no restrictions in regards to the housing projects to which is a “huge sticking point”.
Questions are coming up as well if the talks would be including a two-state solution. Trump did say this: “Well, I’m not going to even say that.” The idea of a solution that would include a two-state solution has been the dream of many presidents from both sides of the parties. Even President Obama’s wished to have this done and feeling is not sure even with one last year in office.
At this time the U.S does not recognize the Palestinian territories as an independent state. Even though the U.N. General Assembly did vote in 2012 that they do recognize the Palestine as a “nonmember observer state.”
