Giuliani, the former New York City Mayor who once ran the South District of New York, is now under investigation over his business in Ukraine while serving as Trump’s attorney. He was not officially charged with any crime. “It’s very, very unfair,” Republican Trump told Fox Business Network in a telephone interview.
“Rudy is a patriot who loves this country, and I don’t know what they’re looking for, what they’re doing. They said it had to do with filing different papers. Rudy loves this country so much”, said Trump. Giuliani’s attorney Bob Costello said on Wednesday that the authorities had confiscated cell phones and computers.
The search warrants included an allegation that Giuliani had violated lobbying laws by failing to register as a foreign agent. He denies this allegation. Costello Giuliani represented Trump in 2018 as part of an investigation into Russian electoral influence.
Presidential election Trump won before the 2020 elections Giuliani sought to spot then-Democratic competitor Joe Biden and his son Hunter in Ukraine. Biden defeated Trump and took office earlier this year. Both Biden and his son have denied wrongdoing.
Giuliani’s attorney suggested that his client’s investigation was politically motivated in his statement on Wednesday, an indictment that the White House denied. “The Justice Department is now independent,” said the White House Justice Department press secretary.
The White House had not received any news that Giuliani’s home would be searched, he added. Giuliani faces separate legal action concerning his actions regarding the November 2020 elections and the deadly attack on the UK Capitol on January 6th, and another report from the voting machine manufacturer Dominion Voting Systems.
