UK comedian Russell Brand denies media allegations of sex assaults

British comedian and actor Russell Brand has denied any criminal wrongdoing in response to allegations of sexual assaults, including rape, made by four women during a seven-year period when he was famous. The Sunday Times newspaper published these allegations, but Brand issued a denial before the article was released. It is unclear if any of the women reported the incidents to the police, and Brand’s representatives have not provided further comment. The alleged incidents occurred between 2006 and 2013, with one woman accusing Brand of rape and another claiming he assaulted her when she was 16. Two of the accusers stated that the incidents took place in Los Angeles. Channel 4 TV’s documentary show “Dispatches” planned to reveal more details about the allegations. Brand responded to the accusations in a video message, acknowledging some promiscuous behavior but vehemently denying the serious criminal allegations. The Sunday Times report was the result of a joint investigation with “Dispatches” that began in 2019. Brand was once a highly visible comedian and actor, known for his flamboyant style and appearances in various media. He married Katy Perry in 2010 but filed for divorce shortly after. Currently, Brand focuses on online projects and has a significant following for his podcasts and social media shows. He emphasized that while he does not mind discussing his past consensual conduct, he strongly refutes the serious criminal allegations.
