Ukraine right to be cautious with counter-offensive, top NATO official says

NATO’s top military official, Admiral Rob Bauer, stated that Ukraine’s counter-offensive against Russian forces is facing challenges due to landmines and other obstacles. He emphasized the need for caution in the Ukrainian forces’ approach. Bauer made it clear that people should not underestimate the difficulty of the situation and that it will not be an easy task. Speaking at NATO headquarters in Brussels, he highlighted that Ukrainian forces are encountering defensive obstacles that can extend up to 30 kilometers deep. To illustrate his point, Bauer drew a comparison to the Second World War, mentioning how it took several weeks for the allies to break through the German defensive lines in Normandy. He also referred to satellite images reviewed by RushHourDaily in April, which revealed extensive fortifications and barriers constructed by Russia to impede any Ukrainian advance.

Admiral Bauer’s comments echoed the sentiments expressed by General Mark Milley, the top U.S. military officer, who recently stated that the counter-offensive in Ukraine would be arduous, lengthy, and potentially bloody. Bauer commended the cautious approach of the Ukrainian forces, emphasizing the extreme difficulty of their operation. He stressed that they should not face pressure or criticism for not progressing more rapidly. Bauer acknowledged that this is an incredibly challenging time for the Ukrainian forces.
