Ukraine says its forces advance in all directions of counteroffensive

Ukrainian troops are making progress in their counteroffensive against Russian forces, according to a senior defence official. Despite Russia still holding large areas in the east, south, and southeast, Ukraine claims to have regained control over clusters of villages in the southeast since the start of the counteroffensive this month. Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar stated that they have seized the strategic initiative and are advancing in all directions along the entire frontline, both in the east and south. However, RushHourDaily has been unable to independently verify the situation on the battlefield, and Russia has not acknowledged Ukraine’s gains, instead claiming that Ukraine’s military is suffering heavy casualties.

Maliar mentioned that Ukrainian troops are moving confidently on the flanks around the city of Bakhmut, which is currently held by Russian forces. The main fighting is concentrated in this area. In the south, Kyiv’s forces are making mixed progress, mainly focusing on stabilizing the frontline. Maliar explained that the advances in the south vary, sometimes covering more than a kilometer, sometimes less, and occasionally up to 2 kilometers.

Maliar emphasized that evaluating the effectiveness of the counteroffensive should consider various military tasks, not just territorial gains and the liberation of settlements. She stated that these tasks are being carried out, and the military is the best judge of their progress. According to their assessment, everything is going according to plan.

President Voldoymyr Zelenskiy acknowledged that the counteroffensive is proceeding slower than desired but emphasized that Kyiv would not be pressured into speeding it up. Ukrainian officials have also stated that the “main event” of the counteroffensive has yet to begin, and Ukraine has not deployed its main troop reserves into combat.

In conclusion, Ukrainian troops are advancing in all directions in their counteroffensive against Russian forces. While Ukraine claims to have regained control over clusters of villages in the southeast, Russia still holds significant territory in the east, south, and southeast. The situation on the battlefield cannot be independently verified, and Russia has not acknowledged Ukraine’s gains. Ukrainian forces are making confident progress around the city of Bakhmut, with the main fighting concentrated in that area. In the south, progress is mixed, with varying distances covered. The effectiveness of the counteroffensive should be evaluated based on multiple military tasks, and according to the military’s assessment, everything is going according to plan. The counteroffensive is proceeding slower than desired, but Ukraine will not be rushed, and the main troop reserves have yet to be deployed.
