US Coast Guard investigating cause of Titanic submersible implosion

On June 25, the U.S. Coast Guard is examining the reason behind the underwater collapse of a tourist submersible that resulted in the death of all five individuals on board while diving to the Titanic’s century-old wreckage, according to officials. The announcement was made one day after Canada’s Transportation Safety Board stated that it was conducting its own inquiry into the Titan’s implosion, which raised concerns about the unregulated nature of such expeditions. Captain Jason Neubauer, the Coast Guard’s chief investigator, stated at a press conference in Boston that his primary objective is to prevent a similar event from occurring by making the necessary recommendations to enhance the safety of the maritime domain worldwide. The Coast Guard initiated a marine board investigation on Friday, according to Neubauer, and is collaborating with the FBI to retrieve evidence, including a salvage operation at the debris site on the seabed about 1,600 feet (488 meters) from the bow of the Titanic wreck, about 2-1/2 miles (4 km) below the surface. The findings will be shared with the International Maritime Organization and other groups “to help improve the safety framework for submersible operations worldwide,” Neubauer said. He stated that the Coast Guard is in contact with the families of the five people who died and that investigators are “taking all precautions on site if we are to encounter any human remains.” Jonathan Allen reported this, and Lisa Shumaker edited it.
