US talking to India about Canada murder, no ‘special exemption’ -Biden adviser

The U.S. is maintaining communication with Indian officials at high levels following allegations that Indian government agents were involved in the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in Canada, according to U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan. Sullivan emphasized that the U.S. will not grant India any special exemption in this matter and will stand up for its principles regardless of the country involved. The U.S. has been working to strengthen its relationship with India, as evidenced by President Joe Biden hosting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a state visit earlier this year. Sullivan assured that the incident will not disrupt the ongoing process of strengthening ties between the two countries. He stated that the U.S. takes the matter seriously and will continue to work on it, while also consulting closely with allies like Canada as they pursue their own law enforcement and diplomatic processes. Canada recently announced that it is actively investigating credible allegations linking Indian government agents to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Sullivan confirmed that the United States is in contact with both Canada and India regarding this issue. He rejected reports suggesting a rift between the U.S. and Canada, emphasizing that the U.S. has deep concerns about the allegations and supports a thorough investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable.
