USA Men’s Basketball and Durant’s 30 Crushes Serbia For Gold Medal

The Men’s Olympic USA basketball team has won its third consecutive gold medal. They took down Serbia for the second time after defeating them first in pool play.

Team USA showed no remorse to ease off the gas pedal in the second half. Kevin Durant started off the game blazing hot and pretty much stayed hot all game, scoring 30 points. He had five three-pointers as well in the 96-66 championship victory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday. No Stephen Curry? No LeBron James? No Russell Westbrook? No problem.

Carmelo Anthony earned his third gold medal and became the most decorated male in Olympic basketball. He also has a bronze medal as an Olympic accolade.

USA’s head coach Mike Krzyzewski won his 76th Olympic game and third Olympic gold medal. He had three games in Rio where he only won by single digits Winning by three over Serbia and France along with winning by six over Spain.

In the first game, Serbia gave USA a real competitive battle only losing 94-91. It was only a close game in the first quarter as USA led 19-15 but then outscored Serbia in the second quarter 33-14, giving USA a commanding 52-29 lead at halftime. USA did trail most of the first quarter and then really locked down on defense from there on out.

Despite winning by 30 points, USA only had three players in double-figures. Durant led with 30, Demarcus Cousins contributed with 13 along with a team-high 15 rebounds off the bench and Klay Thompson added 12. Every single player on the U.S.A roster scored. They had four players who finished with five points or more. Durant had 24 points in just the first half alone.

Team USA outscored Serbia in the second half 44-37 and also dominated the glass. Team USA hauled in 20 offensive rebounds while Serbia corraled only nine. They outrebounded Serbia 54-33 and held Serbia to only four three-pointers out of 24 attempts (16.7%). Serbia also was held to under 40 percent shooting the ball. They made 26 of their 68 field goal attempts (38.2%).
