Usme, Caicedo score to lift Colombia 2-0 over South Korea in Women’s World Cup

Colombia defeated South Korea 2-0 in their first match of the Women’s World Cup, denying the Koreans their second win in the tournament. Catalina Usme scored the first goal from a penalty kick in the 30th minute, while Linda Caicedo doubled Colombia’s lead nine minutes later. Caicedo, an 18-year-old forward for Real Madrid, expressed her happiness and credited the team’s collective effort. Casey Phair, a teenager born in America, became the youngest player to participate in a Women’s World Cup match. Colombia’s head coach Nelson Abadia was suspended for the team’s first two games. The match marked the 300th game in Women’s World Cup history. Despite a close-range header from South Korea, Colombia dominated possession and threatened to extend their lead. The attendance for the match was 24,323, and the atmosphere was lively with fans cheering throughout the game. Korea’s coach Colin Bell appreciated the stadium and cherished the experience of his first World Cup match. Colombia will face Germany in their next match, while South Korea will play against Morocco.
