‘There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now,’ Vanessa Bryant said.
Vanessa and Kobe
Venessa and Kobe met in 1999. At that time, Kobe was 21 years of age, and Vanessa was 17years old. Moreover, Vanessa worked as a background dancer for the Tha Eastsidaz music video titled “G’d Up.”Also, Kobe was in the building and working on his debut musical album. Soon, they started to date before their engagement in 2000.
Vanessa and Kobe Bryant later married on April 18, 2001. Kobe’s family members, his longtime advisors, and his Laker teammates were not present at the wedding. The wedding had only a small group of people with Vanessa’s family in attendance.
Kobe’s family was against the idea of their son’s marriage. They felt it was too early for him. More so, they didn’t accept the fact that Kobe is marrying a non-African-American, which is Vanessa.
This resulted in a conflict between Kobe and his family. It caused a separation between him and his family for more than two years. However, the birth of Kobe’s first daughter ended their separation.
The couple had their first child, Natalia, in 2003. The birth of the new baby brought about the reconciliation between Kobe and his parents. Following the birth of Natalia, another pregnancy came. However, it, unfortunately, led to miscarriage in the spring of 2005. The miscarriage was a massive blow to the family of three at that time.
Vanessa Bryant gives Birth to Gianna
The birth of Gianna – Kobe, and Vanessa’s second daughter sparked joy in the family. Gianna was born in May 2006. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well with the couples as Vanessa filed for a divorce. She cited irreconcilable differences between herself and Kobe in December 2011.
On January 11, 2013, Kobe and his wife declared via social media that they were back together after calling off their divorce.
In 2016, Vanessa gave birth to their third daughter, Bianka, and in January 2019, the Bryants announced they were expecting a fourth daughter. Their daughter, Capri Kobe, was born in June 2019.
The couple endured good and bad periods in their relationship, ranging from the challenges of Kobe’s consistent absence from home due to his career pursuit, amongst other problems, up until Kobe’s death on January 26, 2020.
