WESA Announces Creation of its Own Player Council

The World Esports Association has announced that they have formed a player council which is meant to “advocate on behalf of all pro gamers in the association, empowering players when it comes to a wide range of decision-making in regards to tournaments operated under WESA regulations.” This will be the association’s first major announcement since its creation earlier this year.

The organization was formed on May 13 through a partnership between ESL and a number of famous European eSports organizations the likes of Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team EnVyUs, Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, G2 eSports and mousesports. They have stated their goal is to “bring all eSports stakeholders – players, teams, organizers and broadcasters – to the discussion table in order to bring much-needed structure, predictable schedules and transparency to the scene.”

FaZe Clan has backed out of the organization since its creation due to some disagreements between the two companies, and had to pay a fee to get out.

Each team from the organization has chosen a representative to sit on their council with Fnatic manager Viktor “vuggo” Jendeby being unanimously voted as the Council’s chairman.

“I have maintained that transparency in everything that WESA is doing is critical to its success, and giving the players a seat at the table is an important step in fulfilling that promise,” WESA’s executive chairman Ken Hershman said of the creation of the council. “I am confident that under the leadership of Viktor, the players will now be able to actively contribute to helping eSports continue to develop.”

It will be interesting to see if the council will ever get some action.

The elected members of the council are:

• Jérôme “NiaK” Sudries (G2 Esports)
• Chris “chrisJ” De Jong (mousesports)
• Sergey “starix” Ishchuk (Natus Vincere)
• Adam “friberg” Friberg (Ninjas in Pyjamas)
• Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas (Virtus.Pro)
• Nathan “NBK” Schmitt (Team EnVyUs)
• Viktor “vuggo” Jendeby (Fnatic)
