What Not to Do While Taking Public Transportation

Travel is going to reach a seasonal high in the next several weeks, thus public transport will do so as well. To suggest that there are actions travelers or commuters do that are annoying or simply disrespectful would be an understatement. To avoid being that person, here are some of the things to avoid doing while taking any form of public transportation.

1. Listening to overly loud music is a major don’t.

Just because you like certain music or a song, does not mean everyone else does. Besides, headphones have a purpose, use them. If you do have headphones on and your music is still heard by the people around you, perhaps you should consider your own health and lower the volume.

2. Too much perfume is a nuisance on various levels.

Not only might you be wearing a scent someone absolutely does not like for whatever reason, but most importantly you can cause someone to faint. Do not be the reason someone has to feel sick for the rest of the day. Do not be the reason they can’t enjoy a trip or do their job.

3. Don’t apply nail polish in a small enclosed space, especially if that space is moving.

Scent is a sensitive subject -when that scent comes from nail polish then you know its strong. Beauty routines done on the run might be seen as a mistake or funny while in a moving vehicle. When that routine involves painting your nails, not only are you forgetting all the leeway you pave for the numerous mistakes that are bound to happen, but you are bound to cause for at least one person to feel light headed.

4.Taking up too much space by ignoring the fact that space is shared is inconsiderate.

Don’t sit with your legs wide open. Don’t place your bag on the seat next to you. Don’t take up both arm rests. Don’t block the handrail. Everyone wants to be comfortable, consider just how much space is actually meant for each individual.

5. Control your child.

If you are responsible for a child while on public transportation, you can’t forget that their actions are effecting more people. You have to take control of a child. Don’t allow them to run wild or sit with their feet on people or kicking the chair in front of them. Understand that people on board will be judging you more than the child.

6.Your actions should not slow down or stall travel time.

Unless you are having an emergency, there is no excuse for holding up a train, bus or airplane. So too, don’t hold doors open as they try to automatically close, get back to your coach bus on time after the lunch stop and make sure you check bags that are too large for overhead compartments.
