Winter brings bone-chilling snow and brisk temperatures that can be cold enough to make even the major winter-lovers rush inside after a short walk to the house from the car. While the cold can be cozy and romantic—mainly while snuggling up next to a fire with a cup of hot cocoa—it can also defer people from risking the freezing temperatures to get that workout in. The winter months, for many people, seem to be coupled with the idea of hibernation. Putting on shorts and risking the chilled air to burn a few hundred calories can seem downright crazy in the right weather. However, packing on the pounds this winter isn’t an option, its time to change your ways and get working (you do want to impress his parents on Christmas right?).
First, it’s important to have the proper equipment. Be sure to wear long running tights (under armor all the way), as well as a warm windbreaker.

Lulu Lemon’s Feelin’ Frosty Softshell zip up is sure to keep you toasty, even in the coldest conditions. Throw this on over a long sleeved t-shirt, those running tights and some fleece-lined gloves, and you’ll be ready to go.
Once suited up, put your iPod on shuffle. The music will distract you from the elements, and is sure to get you even more fired up for your workout. Next, find a friend. Whether it’s your boyfriend, roommate, mom, grandma, or neighbor grab a partner and start running. Working out with someone can feel like less of a chore when you’ve got a buddy. If all else fails bring your dog, because there is no doubt he has endless amounts of energy, and would love to run around outside, no matter what the temperature.
Mix up your cardio and run on a different, more scenic route. Go ice-skating one day instead of jogging, or go sledding and sprint up the hills on the way back up. Winter doesn’t have to mean hibernation, and chances are once you start running, you won’t even be thinking about chilly air. Don’t let this winter get you down. Dress right, grab a friend, and get going.
