On Sunday, November 1, 33-year-old Jacqueline Eide broke into the tigers’ cage in a Nebraska Zoo to ’pet’ them and suffered severe damages to her hand from biting.
On Halloween night, Eide snuck into Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. After accessing the tigers’ cage she was bitten and rushed to the Creighton University Medical Center, the Omaha Police Department said in a statement on Sunday.
After her friend rushed her to the hospital the staff had to call for officers “regarding a disturbance.” “Eide was aggressive toward staff and showed signs of intoxication of alcohol and/or drugs,” the police said. Eide is still in the hospital being treated for her injuries. She was in risk of losing her fingers when arriving at the hospital but is now in stable condition.
Police revealed that this was not the first time Eide had violated the law. Prior to the break-in at the Nebraska Zoo, she was convicted due to drunk driving and obstruction of justice. Neither Eide nor her lawyer has commented on these prior incidents.
Eide was accompanied by a friend during the break-in who was the one who accompanied Eide to the Medical Center post the bite.
“The safety and security of our guests and animals are always a priority at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium,” Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium’s executive director and CEO Dennis Pate said in a statement on Sunday.
The Zoo is planning to increase and further optimize the security of their facilities, further ensuring the safety of both guests and animals.
The tiger that caused the trauma to Edie is reportedly 18-year-old Malayan tiger Mai. As of now the investigation of the incident is ongoing.
