History is being made in New York City. The Daily News is reporting that the highly anticipated World Trade Center mall opened on August 16th. This opening drew large crowds and many of nostalgic and patriotic people who wanted to attend the historic opening of the brand new facility.
This mall opens about 15 years after the horrific 9/11 attack took place on the World Trade Center. The attack affected many people and many families are still dealing with the aftermath of the event. Hundreds of people were killed or injured in the incident. The Daily News is also reporting that Port Authority police helped with the opening ceremony. Flags were raised and a moment of silence was given in remembrance to all those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. Security was heavy at the grand opening, as armed guards and law enforcement was posted all around the area to make sure shoppers remained safe.
The mall reportedly covers about 350,000 square feet. The mall is equipped to hold 100 retail stores. All of the retailers are not open now, but the mall will be fully opened by the start of the holiday season. Many high end retailers will be placing establishments in the mall. Food options and restaurants will also be available too and they will be placed so that patrons will have good views of the city.
The Daily News also reports that the Apple store was one of the main attractions for the day. Several photos of people lining up to purchase products at the new location can be seen. Some of the other retailers and restaurants in the mall include Sephora, Eataly, Lobster Press, Michael Kors, and Hugo Boss.
