rushhourdaily.com Esports have announced today their partnership with League of Legends creators Riot Games, to create a new LoL tournament called uLoL Rivalries.

10 teams which rushhourdaily.com considers “five of the biggest rivalries in collegiate eSports” will play matches every week for a total of five weeks. Fans will be able to vote every day on which colleges will be playing to bring a bit of fan interaction to the tournament. The top five teams voted on by the fans will form the 10-team inaugural season to start off the tournament.

The public voting will begin today, September 19th, and the first season is scheduled to begin on November 4th. As of September 19th, the top five voted teams to play are as follows:

1st: University of Michigan vs Ohio State University

2nd: Brigham Young University vs University of Utah

3rd: Simon Fraser University vs University of British Columbia

4th: Duke University vs University of North Carolina

5th: University of California vs Stanford University

These teams are subject to change, however, as voting will continue until the inaugural season begins in 20 days.

Michael Sherman, associate eSports manager for collegiate programs at Riot Games, told ESPN he’s enjoyed seeing collegiate eSports grow so much.

“I came from the community. I started out running college tournaments when I was in college,” said Sherman. “I started out with 100 [teams] and by the time I went to Riot, I had launched an event with 500 teams. So being able to come to a place where I can double-down and grow on that is kind of a dream come true.”

“The University of Texas [for example] has a very diverse and large gaming community, and we wanted to kind of mix those two,” said Sherman. “Making sure that we were building experience for these players, along with [featuring] some of these big rivalries.”
