Police in Ohio reportedly shot and killed a zebra after it bit its owner in the arm and proceeded to behave violently towards them.

Sunday, officers responded to a man’s residence in Circleville, Ohio, after he reported that a zebra had bitten off his arm.

According to officials, the guy was discovered on the ground in a field with his injured arm still on.

The victim was afterwards assisted into an ambulance, which transported him to the hospital.

The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office reported that an officer attempted to prevent it from reaching a wounded man by placing his police car between the guy and the aggressive animal. Nevertheless, the zebra rushed the driver-side door of the officer’s vehicle.

The officer said that he used his air horn and sirens to attempt to scare away the animal and give himself time to assist the wounded victim. Nevertheless, these methods were merely temporary solutions.

The zebra returned as police transported the guy to an ambulance. The landowners warned authorities that they would kill the zebra if it came any closer.

WBNS reports the sheriff’s office body cam video shows the zebra attacking the cops before one of them shoots it with a shotgun.

Officials believe the zebra was attempting to defend female zebras in the same area, but they do not know why it acted as it did.

The injured guy was sent to a hospital, where authorities believe he will recover.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture does not classify zebras as hazardous or wild animals. This suggests they are suitable as pets.
