Zelenskiy sacks Ukraine’s ambassador to UK after criticism

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has dismissed Vadym Prystaiko as Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain and as Ukraine’s representative to the International Maritime Organization. The dismissal comes after Prystaiko publicly criticized the president. The presidential order did not provide a reason for the dismissal.

Prystaiko’s criticism of Zelenskiy came during an interview with Sky News. He was asked about remarks made by outgoing British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, who suggested that Ukraine should show more gratitude for weapons deliveries from its allies in the fight against Russia’s occupying forces. In response, Zelenskiy stated that Ukraine is always grateful to Britain and that Wallace could advise him on how to express gratitude.

When asked if Zelenskiy’s response was sarcastic, Prystaiko acknowledged that there was “a little bit of sarcasm” and expressed his belief that this sarcasm is not healthy. He emphasized the importance of Russia knowing that Ukraine and its allies are working together.

The order issued by Zelenskiy did not mention who would replace Prystaiko. Prystaiko, an experienced diplomat and former vice prime minister, had held the position of ambassador to Britain for three years.
