The new 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat comes right on the heels of Dodge’s release of the thrilling Challenger SRT Hellcat, which is due for showrooms this fall. The upcoming high-powered Charger packs the exact same horsepower punch as its two-door cousin with the practicality that comes with four doors, at 707 hp.
According to Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, “This is a car that you absolutely cannot build a business case for. But sometimes, you need to stop listening to the focus groups. Sometimes you need to build a car that defines itself.”
Dodge modified the hood and front fascia of the Charger to accommodate the needs of the supercharged V-8, namely space for the supercharger and room for maximum airflow. A rear deck lid and two four-inch exhaust tips help separate it from normal Chargers. Features that are also shared with the Challenger, include more powerful brakes, better wheels and tires.
The new Hellcat Charger even boasts a 204 mph top speed- five mph higher than the speed ceiling of the Challenger. Additionally, the Charger speeds to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. These stats make this the new Charger SRT Hellcat a family sedan that has already earned its spot in the 200 mph club.
Power translates to the pavement through a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission. Two pairs of 275/40ZR20 tires have made the transition to the Charger as well. Hopped-up Chargers will have LED racetrack taillights and SRT badges inside the headlights. Production of the Charger Hellcat is slated for the first quarter of 2015. Pricing hasn’t been announced.
