An 8-year-old boy on the Royal Caribbean “Anthem of the Seas” cruise ship is in critical condition after nearly drowning in a pool according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
On Thursday night crew members were alerted that a boy needed medical attention after he was found inside the pool. The boy had been in the water for about eight minutes before he was found. The boy then received CPR on board and the ship changed directions to head back to Bayonne.
The ship arrived back in the Bayonne Port to be met by the FDNY and NYPD. The boy was then taken by police helicopter to a Staten Island hospital.
The ship’s original destination was to the Caribbean at the time after leaving the New York Harbor.
Royal Caribbean stated they were providing support to the boy’s family.
