Renowned thespian and film actor passed away earlier this morning, January 26th. He lived to the ripe age of 94, what is considered a fine age to reach. Many will know Abe Vigoda either from his role as a mobster in The Godfather or possibly as Detective Phil Fish on the well-known sitcom Barney Miller. Vigoda did not like simply being known as a “mafia man”, often preferring to be known for his stage work.
Abe Vigoda was the latest loss in what has been a rough start to 2016. One of his last roles was in a 2010 Snickers commercial for the Super Bowl, starring alongside Betty White.
I’m sure there were a few people out there who thought this to be just another entry in the long running Abe Vigoda death hoax story, but no, this one is actually true. For those who are not aware, for almost 35 years there has been a hoax that Abe Vigoda passed away, stemming from a time he missed a wrap-party for Barney Miller. The hoax would get corrected, but it would constantly come up for years, with Vegoda’s wife receiving sympathy cards from believers of the hoax.
