Airlines slash international fares to beat coronavirus downturn

The global spread of coronavirus has affected the tourism industry badly as the people are canceling their travel plans to remain safe in their homes.

Airlines and hotels are offering huge discounts to attract travelers in the wake of coronavirus that has caused a downward economic turn globally.

Travel and accommodation providers are also slashing down prices since the global financial crises. They are doing this to lure back travelers to the market.

Furthermore, the global spread of the coronavirus has affected the tourism industry so much. Moreover, many people are canceling their travel plans to remain safe in their homes. Besides, health agencies are recommending self-quarantine and social distancing to limit the spread of the virus. As a result, travelers will be discouraged from traveling.

However, people who still feel the need to travel are benefiting from the enormous discounts that airlines and other businesses are offering at the moment.

Big Airlines Discounts

The biggest international airfares discounts are between Australia and the U.S. This is according to Haydn Long from Flight Center to Guardian Australia.

Furthermore, the return flight between Los Angeles and Australia will only cost $772 per person with United Airlines. He added that this price is lower than the discount offered at the peak of the discounting during GFC.

In addition, this price is a 30% drop on the cheapest fare compared to 10 years back, which was $1,142 for the same route. The tickets are even cheaper down to $634 from other capital cities in Australia to Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, some trans-Tasman flights got price elasticity too. Virgin is offering limited flights at $273 from Melbourne to Auckland.

Besides, places like Thailand and Fiji also experienced a significant slash for flights and accommodation.

Also, many other airlines are offering serious discounts domestically, especially to areas of high tourist attraction.
