Amazon has obtained around one million subscribers for its Prime loyalty program in India, the e-commerce giant revealed today.
Over a million Prime subscribers shopped from the small businesses in the two weeks before the Amazon Prime Day event. During the global pandemic, Amazon chose India as the first market for Prime Day.
This is the first time that Amazon has revealed how many users in India have signed up for the Prime subscription. It costs $13.33 a year and includes Prime Video and Prime Music Services.
Amazon started Prime in India four years ago. Moreover, the company has over 150 million subscribers globally.
The Chinese firms OnePlus and Xiaomi continued their dominance in the smartphone industry. They were the top three categories on Amazon during Prime Day, which attracted the customers to their accessories, television sets, and laptops.
Amit Agarwal, who is the MVP and Country Manager of Amazon India, stated, “Last week proved that the Indians use Amazon as a starting point to launch their products globally.” However, he didn’t share the exact figures. “The company targeted Prime Day at small business partners who have been using the company’s services to promote their businesses. We have proved to be a helpful source for these businesses”
Prime Day is the biggest event for the company globally. In India, the company has sold more goods during the sales events around the Diwali Festival.
The company revealed that it has 650,000 sellers in India, which is up fro. 500,000 in January this year.
The company has been partnering with neighborhood stores all over the country. It has around a thousand shops in more than 100 countries.
The company also stated that during the Prime Day, the requests people made on Alexa exceeded one million. The company also claimed that twice as many subscribers signed up for Amazon Prime membership compared to last year.
