Apple inc, an American multinational technology company with headquarters in Cupertino, California on Friday applied for a US trademark on Slofie, potentially giving them control over the word usage.
Slofies are Apple’s name for slow-motion selfies, a new feature that is introduced to the new iPhone 11 models. Its front camera can now record at 120 frames per second which when slowed down, would results in a sharp clear slow-motion effect alongside other new features which includes a 6.1-inch liquid retina HD display, water and dust resistant, and more durable glass.
Apple applied for this trademark with a $400 trademark application. If this trademark is approved, it would prevent other companies from making a Slofie branded app. Apple applying for this trademark feels it would be a great selling point in the future.
Many reactions to the trademark registration were negative. Although the phone is yet to be shipped, the trademark application suggests that Apple is sticking with the name Slofie.
