Apple Planning 12.9-inch iPad for 2015: Bloomberg

Apple is set to release a bigger version of its iPad, a 12.9-inch version, in 2015. Apple has struggled with declining sales for its 10-inch and 7.9-inch tablets. According to a Bloomberg report, users are replacing iPads far less frequently than Apple expected and large smart phones and comparable tablets from Samsung and LG have snatched up sales.

Apple CEO Tim Cook pointed out that the release of a new iPad is “working to shake up” Apple’s tablet line. In a recent Re/code interview, Cook shrugged off declining iPad sales as “a speed bump.”

The new iPad display is slated to feature a new high-pixel density that will approach an ultra-high definition level of quality. Additionally, an ultra-thin chassis and narrow side bezels will round out the package.

Only minimal research is required to discover why iPad competitors are picking up steam in terms of sales. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes packed with a high-resolution eight- megapixel camera, and HDMI connector for TV-out and plenty of RAM at 2048MB. The Sony Xperia Z2 tablet has a quad-core processor, an 8.1-megapaixel camera, even more RAM than the Galaxy Tab at 3072MB. It’s a waterproof phone, too.

The Apple iPad 4 boasts lightning-fast mobile 4G data support and a dual-core processor. It doesn’t have a flash and, like all Apple products, uses its own proprietary USB connector. Also, the battery isn’t user replaceable like the one in the Z2.
