The federal investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents is still ongoing, while probes into former Vice President Mike Pence and former President Donald Trump have either reached or appear to be reaching their conclusion, according to three sources familiar with the matter. Biden’s advisers have stated that he would provide an interview to the special counsel investigating his handling of classified documents once the president’s legal team and the Justice Department agree on the conditions. However, Biden has not yet been interviewed, indicating that the investigation is not yet nearing its end. The White House declined to comment and referred questions to the DOJ, citing an ongoing investigation.
A recent investigation into potential mishandling of classified documents by Joe Biden is showing few signs of wrapping up quickly.
A complaint was lodged to the Intelligence Community Inspector General in August this year concerning the former vice president’s alleged mishandling of classified documents following a Freedom Of Information Act request. The IG then launched an investigation into the matter but seven weeks later there has been no visible signs of the probe being concluded.
The investigation has been rousing heightened interest from members of Congress who are expecting updates on the IG’s investigations. Senator Chuck Grassley from Iowa has raised concerns that the investigation has been allowed to linger on for an alarming amount of time and will continue to urge on the investigation with the The Senate Judiciary Committee.
Many in the Democratic party have been quick to discredit the investigation, arguing that it is nothing but a smoke screen created by the Trump administration to create mass media attention. Although, this argument does not appear to sway Republicans, such as senator Roland W Burris from Illinois, who has maintained that the former vice president should answer the allegations brought against him with facts and not rhetoric.
Although the Biden classified documents investigation is still ongoing, it is yet to be firmly established how long it will take for the report’s result to be made available. If any wrongdoing is established, then it could have serious repercussions for the Democrats’ ability to win the Presidential elections in 2020.
