Cale Makar’s record-setting night helps Avs beat Kraken

Cale Makar became the fastest defenseman in NHL history to reach 250 career points, assisting on the go-ahead goal as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Seattle Kraken 4-1 in their home opener. Makar achieved this milestone in 241 games, surpassing Hall of Famer Bobby Orr by six games. Colorado’s victory marked their third consecutive win of the season, with goals from Artturi Lehkonen, Logan O’Connor, Mikko Rantanen, and Valeri Nichushkin. Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev made 37 saves for the Avalanche. Seattle’s lone goal came from Kailer Yamamoto, while Philipp Grubauer stopped 24 of 27 shots. The Kraken have struggled to find the back of the net, scoring only three goals in their 0-3-1 start. The Avalanche, who were eliminated by the Kraken in the playoffs last season, rallied from a 1-0 deficit with two goals in the second period. Lehkonen tied the game at 3:50 of the second period with an unassisted goal, and O’Connor scored a short-handed goal at 11:50 to give Colorado the lead. Makar’s impressive play led to O’Connor’s goal, as he cleared the puck from behind his net to set up the play. Rantanen extended the Avalanche’s lead to 3-1 at 13:45 of the third period, and Nichushkin sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 16:46. Seattle opened the scoring in the first period when Yamamoto scored his first goal with the Kraken. Tye Kartye’s shot hit the crossbar, and Dunn passed the rebound to Yamamoto, who found the back of the net. The game concluded with the Avalanche’s triumph, highlighting Makar’s historic achievement.
