In today’s world, particularly among the entertainment community, your Instagram list of followers directly correlates with your popularity (same in other social networks). Celebrities more than half of the time do not even run their own social media account, but pay others to advertise, and write on their behalf. With social networking directly influencing the level of fame someone may hold, it is something that they try to hold onto, and constantly try to raise.
Over the past week several A-list celebrities have been losing millions of followers on their social media accounts; especially on Instagram. It turns out that a lot of these celebrity accounts have millions of followers, and a lot of the users that follow them are actually from spam accounts.
In an attempt to clean up their site, Instagram developers are cleaning out all the fake, inactive and spam accounts that are currently still active. This detailed cleaning is resulting in many celebrities losing a lot of the followers.
Justin Bieber has lost over 3 and a half million users as well as Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Rhianna have all lost over a million users. These celebrities still have millions of followers, and many are not even going to notice the difference in numbers. But for some celebrities, heads may be a little more humbled due to the drop in followers.
