While Chick-Fil-A is usually closed on Sundays, employees in Orlando, Fla. plan to serve food to people giving blood after the mass shooting on Sunday.
Since 1946 the company has a longstanding policy of remaining closed on Sundays. The restaurant supported those donating blood for the Orlando shooting. Food was provided to both those donating blood and to law enforcement officers who were part of the response team.
Chick-Fil-A is known for its traditionally conservative values. The LGBT community has boycotted the fast food chain after the company’s CEO made comments opposing same-sex marriage.
“The events in Orlando stirred our local restaurant owners and their teams to band together to provide nourishment to first responders as well as volunteers who donated blood,” company spokeswoman Carrie Kurlander said in a statement. “We do not think this requires any recognition. It is the least we can do in this community we love.”
The company has come a long way from the 2012 incident in recreating their public image.
