David Beckham premiered his new Netflix documentary in London’s Mayfair, accompanied by his wife Victoria Beckham and their four children. The documentary, titled “Beckham,” is a four-part mini-series that chronicles the rise of the British soccer star from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most recognizable players of his time. It explores how Beckham transformed into a celebrated sportsman and a media-savvy global icon through his sponsorship deals and marriage to Spice Girl Victoria Adams.
Beckham explained that he felt it was the right time to create the documentary and wanted something for his family to enjoy and look back on. He reminisced about his career beginnings in Manchester in the ’90s, where he was surrounded by amazing music and scenes, and Manchester United was one of the most successful teams in football. Beckham hopes that the documentary will evoke special memories for viewers and make them feel special.
The documentary features previously unpublished footage and delves into the controversies and difficulties that Beckham faced in his public and personal life. When asked about the attention on Taylor Swift and her rumored relationship with Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Beckham emphasized the importance of happiness in relationships and mentioned that he and Victoria have been together for 26 years, building businesses and making time for each other.
The premiere was attended by the documentary’s filmmaking team, including director Fisher Stevens and executive producer Gary Neville, who was Beckham’s former teammate at Manchester United. “Beckham” will be available for streaming on Netflix starting Wednesday.
