As the New Year begins it seems to always start off with some sadness and this one is a big one too. As the entire world mourns the loss of music icon David Bowie, we will always have his spirit live on through the wonderful creative music he pioneered. But not only through the music that he created, but how he changed the way for so many that wanted to just try to walk the line that he did and his legacy.
David Bowie left the world at a young 69 after fighting a battle with cancer for almost 18 months. Assuming the sadness that is being felt is that the cancer was not known until the day he died. Even with his parting from this world he left us with such grace and that he went the way he wanted to, with his wife and children that by his side until his last breath, but yet again the spirit of Bowie will continue with the path he created for others.
From Madonna to Kanye West to different various artists have said how Bowie inspired them in the way music should be in their eyes. Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert called Bowie a “key inspiration” and part of why they went the way they did with their music. Over the past 40 years all the way up to his last and latest album he created such kind of music that others just wished and dreamed that they could even come up with things as he did.
Part of the reason he was a major icon was because not just how he transformed his music into the Bowie Art that he never not once ever changed his image. Fashion would not be the same if Bowie never came into our lives without his colorful style and will the many alter-egos and stage presence. From Ziggy Stardust, Major Tom, Thin White Duke and Aladdin Sane helped influence even the top designers to even they way Lady Gaga made herself like the more Female Bowie.
Why do you think why she had the thunderbolt on her face? That was only because she was placing honor to Bowie. Back in 2013 Lady Gaga even said that her alter egos: “I see this girl as the first incarnation of me…the Bowie superfan, playing with glitter and reflective materials, like doing a jigsaw puzzle,” and that “He still runs my universe as well, like, every morning I wake up and think, ‘What would Bowie do?’ …the things he created, it was self expression for him, but also a sense of protection for who he personally is as David.”
He was also a brave man that did not really seem to care what others thought. By means that to come out in an interview back in 1976 about being bisexual was not only brave but scary to do so. When during that time was not so easy as it is today to come out. He made another feel brave to come out and not scared because why he once again paved the path for others to feel the safety and security that he probably did not feel like it is as in these times.
Adam Lambert, the mini Bowie of our today’s new times, said that Bowie was the key to writing for his album in 2013. He stated that “It was about the androgyny of mixing it up, and that was what was so incredible about his concepts—he was one of the first rock stars to really push the idea that sexuality was not black and white but an exploration,”
From his theatric ways and Sci-Fi influence to creating musical dramas that everyone was so drawn in like we even had a choice. But the man was not only a Superstar genus to music, but he also was a kind man. He donated to 10 charities that ranged from Save the Children to many others that dealt with HIV/AIDS. He has gone so far to doing concerts that made sure all the funds when to the charities that needed it the most like HIV/AIDS awareness and research.
