Master of illusions, David Copperfield’s, swimming pool made it’s own disappearance after the rooftop pool located on Copperfield’s East 57th Street penthouse went haywire and flooded into Copperfield’s apartment.
While Copperfield’s apartment was severely damaged, along with all his antiques and priceless works of art, the water did make its way down throughout the building finding its way down throughout 30 stories; the water also reportedly caused all the buildings elevators to be shut down for the day.
Copperfield’s attorney confirmed that Copperfield’s pool was the reason for the leaks and stated a pool pump was responsible for the incident. Blumberg, Copperfield’s attorney, released the following statement, “The pump malfunctioned, and the entire pool drained through David’s apartment and apartments below, right to the basement. Walls and floors were completely soaked. David was terrified, because he has these rare, vintage Coney Island machines, which are priceless, irreplaceable antiques, including a fortune teller, strength testers, an electric shock machine and shooting galleries. But for some unknown reason, or stroke of luck, these machines were spared by the water. There’s a magic trick called ‘The Bullet Catch,’ where the illusionist catches the bullet in his teeth, and David thinks he really dodged a bullet here.”
Copperfield originally bought the apartment almost 20 years ago in 1997 for 7.4 million dollars. It is unsure yet how much worth of damage was caused because of the pool bursting, and it is still unclear whether or not Copperfield is responsible for paying off those expenses.
