Did Officer Slager Think no One would be Watching?

The news has been flooded with the recent story about a South Carolina police officer who shot down a black male who was running away from him, unarmed.

The officer, Michael T. Slager, claimed that the man had stolen his stun gun, and feared for his life, and that was why he shot down Walter L. Scott.

As many of have already heard, the officer’s story was false after a video surfaced that showed the Scott unarmed, and that Slager dropped his stun gun next to his body to make it look like he was armed.

The officer has been found guilty for shooting down Scott, and Slager is being given no sympathy for his case because it was clear that he had no reason to fear for his life.

During a news conference Mayor Keith Summey stated, “When you’re wrong, you’re wrong. And if you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield or just a citizen on the street, you have to live by that decision.”

The surprising thing that some people have yet to realize in this world is that there are cameras no matter where you turn, trying to hide actions like, which take place wide in the open is not going to happen when everyone has access to camera, and are ready to post anything they see out of the ordinary. Even if a civilian did not take footage, most public areas have security cameras posted in local parks and outside of business building to make sure safety is guaranteed.

With that being said, the main question remains, why would this officer, in spite of everything that is going on within this country decide to shoot an unarmed black man who clearly was unarmed. This case will spark a brand new set of commotion from around the country, as it should, but does not help the cause for his fellow officers who are trying to do their jobs correctly.

The case was opened and shut, as it should be with undeniable evidence that proved Slager’s crime. Police officer’s are assigned to protect the citizens of the nation, and in today’s society there is a bright light shined upon them, and they need to be as cautious as they can in order to avoid issues like this and labeling.  A dead man speaks no word. Should no one have been watching, one could only imagine how this case would have also remained another unsolved mystery.
