Along with the reawakened film series, Star Wars is seeing a revival in the realm of video games. According to publisher Electronic Arts, the new generation of Star Wars games has only just begun.
Star Wars Battlefront was the first of these games, and despite some mixed opinions regarding the game’s lack of content and DLC plans, it performed extremely well, no doubt due to the strength of the Star Wars brand. It’s one of the best-selling Star Wars games in history, having shipped over 14 million copies to date.
In an interview with gameindustry.biz, EA’s global publishing boss Laura Miele says they’re “really proud” of how things have panned out so far.
“[Battlefront] is one of the best selling Star Wars games in the history of all Star Wars games and that’s our first one… We’re just getting started. So we feel like we have a great road ahead of us in this franchise.”
And there’s much more Star Wars on the way for gamers. A sequel to Battlefront has been confirmed. Many fans have requested a true single-player campaign mode for the next game, including The Force Awakens star John Boyega.

In his exchange with EA, Boyega went on to tweet that while the first game’s Missions mode was great, it left him wanting to “engage with a narrative.” It seems very likely that EA will look to expand their content offerings for Battlefront 2, given the amount of demand from fans.
In addition to the Battlefront sequel, a number of other Star Wars games across multiple genres are in the works, from different developers affiliated with EA. Respawn has confirmed that they’re working on a third-person action game, with no release date yet, and Visceral Games have something coming for 2018. BioWare continues to support their MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic and Capital Games is doing the same for Galaxy of Heroes.
With all these games on the way, the next few years are sure to be exciting for Star Wars fans.
