England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bat first against Sri Lanka in their World Cup match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. This decision was made as England aims to revive their campaign after suffering three losses in their first four matches, including a heavy defeat by South Africa. In order to turn things around, England made three changes to their lineup, bringing in Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, and Chris Woakes, while Harry Brook, Gus Atkinson, and the injured Reece Topley were replaced. Buttler expressed the team’s intention to post a competitive score on a slightly drier wicket than usual. Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis also stated that he would have chosen to bat first at this high-scoring venue. Sri Lanka, who are also seeking a victory to enhance their chances of reaching the semi-finals, enter the game with a win against the Netherlands last week. They made two changes to their side, including the inclusion of veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews. The teams for the match are as follows: England – Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood. Sri Lanka – Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Angelo Mathews, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Chandradasa Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka.
