The doom has been spelled for mankind. Well, perhaps not that serious, but the doom has been spelled for the Northeast.
The Farmer’s Almanac, which has been around since 1792, has predicted that the upcoming winter will be filled with snow, ice, and numbing cold. It has also predicted that this year’s winter will start at an earlier date than last year’s, but that the rate of snowfall will be normal, though most definitely higher than last year’s where the Northeast saw very little snow.
So perhaps it’s not the doom for mankind, and maybe not the doom for the Northeast. But the Stark words will ring true. Winter is coming.
But when it comes to the Farmer’s Almanac, the forecast needs to be taken with a grain or two of salt. After all, it’s only August and a lot can change between now and the winter season. Last year their prediction was very similar to this year’s, and yet much of the eastern seaboard had seen relatively mild weather patterns. Will we get the winter that was foretold? Possibly. This year El Nino will not be a factor in the weather patterns, so we should expect more snow than we did last year, though it certainly isn’t going to reach levels out of the ordinary.
Prepare for a more challenging winter than last year’s, though. We wouldn’t be so fortunate to experience unusually warm temperatures two years in a row. But don’t expect the end of the world.
