The highly anticipated television show “Game of Thrones” has had a security breach. The first four episodes were leaked right before the premiere of the widely popular fantasy drama series. By Sunday morning, it had been downloaded 800,000 times, so some fans could watch the first half of the show early. Spoilers may be on the horizon by trolls who want to ruin the experience to the fans who did not download the first half of the insanely popular show. “Game of Thrones” is no stranger to piracy as it is one of the most pirated shows on television since a lot of fans do not have HBO.
The network tried to help stop piracy of the episodes by launching HBO Now last week. The application allows a person to watch HBO without a subscription to the cable channel. The application would be free for 30 days and after the trial users would have to pay $14.99 a month to continue using the service. HBO tries so hard to stop the pirating, but it seems as though the leak of the first four episodes of “Game of Thrones” came from within HBO.
According to the New York Post HBO released a statement that says “Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of ‘Game of Thrones’ originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them. We’re actively assessing how this breach occurred.” Just like how it is in the show, nothing is safe. Even HBO needs tighter security so they don’t have to worry about pirates stealing their episodes, or if they accidentally leak the episodes themselves. This betrayal may be in the same boat as the Red Wedding… Okay, maybe not, but HBO works hard to get the episodes out when they need to.
Now the question here is are you strong enough to not download the leaked episodes and watch them week to week? It is hard, there is no question of that, as the show always leaves the fans wanting more. With all the twists and turns and surprises revealed in the next episode you will always come back for more. From the first episode it can be seen this is going to be an emotional season. Are you ready?
