Gladbach’s Austria defender Lainer diagnosed with blood cancer

Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Austria defender Stefan Lainer has been diagnosed with blood cancer, according to the Bundesliga club. Lainer, who plays as a right back, will be sidelined for several months as he undergoes treatment for lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. However, the club stated that the cancer has been detected early and is treatable with medication. They expressed optimism that Lainer will make a full recovery and be able to resume his professional sports career. Lainer joined Gladbach in 2019 and has since made over 120 appearances for the club. Borussia’s board member for sport, Roland Virkus, pledged to provide Lainer with the best possible treatment and offered support to him and his family. Meanwhile, Gladbach is preparing for the upcoming season, with their first match scheduled against Augsburg on August 19.
